Bad news from the European Commission

Bad news from the European Commission.

The European Union is loosening its climate targets.

At the European Commission’s proposal, cars would become 100% electric from 2035 onwards, with no cars allowed for internal combustion engines.

Europe intended to be an example in the fight against climate change, following the Paris Agreement.
Now there is a retreat. It goes from 100% zero emissions to 90%.
This resolution was influenced by the new political balance in Europe. Germany and its Chancellor Friedrich Merz were also decisive, as he called for more realistic policies, wanting to protect his main automotive brands.
This year the market share of electric vehicles was 18%, still very low relative to what is needed, and some governments are suspending subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles.
Europe is also falling behind China in the use of renewable energy. This is partly due to the negative effect of excessive activism, driven by ignorance of what is at stake.

Thus, the opportunity for Europe to lead the urgent movement towards zero emissions, decarbonizing as quickly as possible, is lost.
